Pictures of people and things that have caught my eye at home in NYC and on my travels.

These religious figures in the museum of the Church of Saint Roch (Sao Roque) in Lisbon were designed to be displayed with wigs and gowns. I've seen some in Spanish churches, but never in their unadorned state. If I remember correctly, they were made in Italy. The labels in the museum didn't indicate if they were of specific people or saints.
Well, actually ancient Roman busts in the Altes Museum in Berlin. When I first saw them I was struck by how they were clearly portraits of individuals, rather than the idealized faces one generally sees on Roman and Greek statues. Also noted that some of them would fit in quite nicely among the hipsters of Williamsburg here in NYC.
